Hofkapelle München
"Rüdiger Lotter demonstrates as conductor of his Hofkapelle München with this recording his stylistic mastery as well as a pronounced sense of expression and dramaturgy in shaping the works." — Wanderer, November 2022

Rüdiger Lotter is today one of the most distinguished and versatile artists of his generation. With the Hofkapelle München he founded a leading period-instrument ensemble with which he has celebrated international success for over ten years, and which was awarded the Echo Klassik prize in 2015.

As a conductor he has been a guest at major festivals including the Chopin Festival in Warsaw, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, the Rheingau Musik Festival, the MA Festival in Bruges, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Tage Alter Musik Regensburg, Styriarte, and the Tage Alter Musik in Herne. He has conducted orchestras such as the WDR Symphony Orchestra, the Bochumer Sinfoniker, the Düsseldorfer Sinfoniker, and the Orchestra of the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival.

Rüdiger Lotter has extensive experience collaborating with internationally renowned singers including Christiane Karg, Franco Fagioli, Julia Lezhneva, Yeree Suh, Max Emanuel Cencic, Valer Sabadus, Anna Lucia Richter, Olivia Vermeulen and Julian Prégardien. He has also worked with choirs such as the Chorus of Bavarian Radio, the Chorwerk Ruhr and the Chor der KlangVerwaltung. In order to better reflect the history and repertoire of the Hofkapelle München, Rüdiger Lotter expanded the ensemble in 2024 with a professional choir, the Chor der Hofkapelle München.

As an enthusiastic musical explorer, Rüdiger Lotter repeatedly champions unknown works of the Baroque and Classical periods. This is also evident in his collaboration with baritone Konstantin Krimmel on the Alpha CD "Zauberoper": for this recording he placed the creative workshop of Franz Schikaneder and his Theater auf der Wieden at the centre of the programme concept. His revival and CD recording of Schikaneder's opera "Der Stein der Weisen" with Daniel Behle and Michael Schade in the leading roles was enthusiastically received at the Mozartfest Würzburg 2023 and was repeated in 2025 at the Theater an der Wien. In 2024, Rüdiger Lotter realised his own version of "The Magic Flute", performed at the Herrenchiemsee Festival and at the Konzerthaus Blaibach, which caused considerable excitement in the press. Lotter's repertoire ranges from Early Music to contemporary compositions — in 2020, as part of the "No Beethoven" project at the Cologne Philharmonie, he conducted the world première of "Händeküssen" by Lisa Streich, written for the Hofkapelle München.

As a Baroque violinist, Rüdiger Lotter has set benchmarks with several CD recordings, including the Rosary Sonatas by Heinrich Ignaz Biber, which he recorded live in 2004 to mark the 300th anniversary of Biber's death. This recording was recognised in 2018 by the British journal Gramophone as the finest available version. Of his recording of the Brandenburg Concertos, the specialist press wrote: "The fact is that future recordings will have to be measured against this one."

Since 2023, Rüdiger Lotter has taught violin, historical performance practice and orchestral conducting at the Akademie für Tonkunst in Darmstadt.
